My sister, Jaimie gave me this for Christmas.
I’ve always loved the hymn “It Is Well,” even when I was young and had no idea what “trials should come.” But I’ve clung to the lyrics of that hymn throughout my life and especially in this last year.
When I sing the lyrics, it’s often less of a declaration and more of a prayer – Lord, let it be well with my soul!
When faced with trials, I find myself struggling in that place between knowing GOD CAN and believing GOD WILL. And there’s not a lot of peace in that place. During these times, I try to focus on the times that GOD HAS – and there are so many of those times.
I love any song that even eludes to the original “It Is Well” hymn. One of those songs is Morgan Harper Nichols’ “Storyteller.” It’s a song of remembering what God has done and how that history gives us the courage to say “It is well.”
Maybe you’re struggling in that place between knowing GOD CAN and believing GOD WILL. Draw courage from the times that GOD HAS.
