Merry Christmas! Mele Kalikimaka! Season’s Greetings! Happy Holidays! Boy, there sure are a lot of ways to share holiday greetings. Did you know the word ‘holiday’ actually comes from “Holy Day?” Long ago, these days were given to workers so they could go to church and worship. Jesus is the reason we celebrate this Christmas holiday. We encourage you and your family to truly celebrate this Christmas. Enjoy giving one another gifts, singing Christmas carols, baking holiday goodies and all the other traditions, all while keeping Christ at the center. How can we do that?
WORSHIP FULLY: Entering the advent season means entering this season with an overwhelming passion to worship Jesus to the fullest.
SPEND LESS: Consider spending less this Christmas (maybe buying less gifts, or getting more creative with the ones you give). It sounds insignificant, but you may find you are more available to celebrate Christ during the advent season.
GIVE MORE: Spending less doesn’t have to mean we give less! God’s gift to us was a relationship built on love, so it’s not surprising that we’re drawn to the idea that Christmas should be a time to love our friends and family. Let’s do so in the most memorable ways possible.
LOVE ALL: When Jesus loved, He loved in ways never imagined before. Even though He was royalty, He became poor in order to love the poor, the forgotten, the overlooked and the sick. By spending less at Christmas, we have the opportunity to join Him in giving more to those who need help the most.
Let’s also remember that Scripture does not preach only one coming of Christ, but two. While we share the holidays with loved ones and look upon Jesus’ first coming with thanksgiving, let’s also look forward to His second coming with great joy.
Merry Christmas!
