“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken.” Isaiah 54:10 (NIV)
I didn’t think buildings were supposed to sway…but there I was, standing on the 26th floor of a Las Vegas hotel, and everything around me started moving. The chandelier swung like a pendulum, and the walls creaked a little with every shift. My stomach flipped as I realized this wasn’t my imagination: it was an earthquake.
As it turns out, there was a 7.1 magnitude earthquake over 100 miles away, but even from that distance, the effects were enough to make me feel like the ground beneath me couldn’t be trusted. And isn’t that how life feels sometimes? The things we count on—our plans, relationships, and routines—can shift so suddenly that we’re left wondering what, if anything, is truly steady.
That’s why Isaiah 54:10 is such a comfort: “Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken.” God is telling us that His love is the one thing that will never move, no matter how unstable life becomes.
God’s love isn’t tied to how steady or shaky our circumstances feel. It doesn’t waver when life’s uncertainties hit. His love is firm, unfailing, and always present. Even when everything else feels like it’s shifting beneath your feet, you can hold onto Him as your foundation.
When the world feels like it’s swaying, God invites us to lean on Him. His love is unshakable, His promises are firm, and His presence is steady. Even when the ground beneath you shakes, His love will never crumble.
