August 29th. It’s a date that already stood out for so many of us who went through Katrina 16 years ago. And now, it’s a date that stands out once again.
My prayer is that you and your family are safe and well and sustained little to no damage due to Ida. And if that isn’t the case, and you are trying to pick up the pieces in the aftermath, I’m praying, too, that God will surround you with His peace and provide every single thing that you need.
After the season we’ve been in already, this storm (and the timing of it) may feel incredibly overwhelming. Perhaps you’re trying to figure out how to navigate what comes next. Or reliving memories from sixteen years ago.
One of the things I remember most about those post-Katrina days was the outpouring of love. Neighbors helping neighbors. Strangers offering every type of assistance possible. People feeding each other, clothing each other, caring for one another in whatever way they could. These were beacons of hope, and they are being seen again now in our community, too. And for that, I am so grateful.
The name Ida means “labor, work, deed, action.” It’s often said that love isn’t an emotion, it’s an action. I’m praying that as we all get to work in these days following the storm, that our deeds and actions reflect the love of God.
1 Corinthians 13 tells us more about what God says of love. Verse 7 says “It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
Our Louisiana community and LifeSongs family is strong. Because of our good God and His great love for us, we can always hope, always persevere. And we will. Let’s get to work and love each other well!
