At what age did your kids give up their naps? (#Askingforafriend) The idea that my son Gus is phasing out of “rest time” is definitely a harder adjustment for me than it is for him.
What I wouldn’t give to have some actual “rest time” in my life! Are you craving a season of rest these days, too? How do we find that and embrace it? Maybe it starts by lightning our loads of things we weren’t meant to carry.
Here’s what the Bible has to say about that. Matthew 11:28-30 says “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Psalm 23:1-3a says “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul.”
And in verse 4, it says “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me.”
Notice it doesn’t say “now that I live in the shadow of the valley of death.” It says “walk through.” You may be weary on this journey, but it’s not the end! You’re just going THROUGH it. And God is right there with you!
What if we actually didn’t fear the shadows? The worries and the “what ifs?” What if we could truly let go and give those burdens that are weighing us down to God, and allow Him to lead us to green pastures?
That is my prayer. That we would allow God to give us rest. That He wouldn’t have to MAKE us lie down, that we would be willing by truly giving our cares to Him. That His peace would guard our hearts and minds, protecting us from the things we let become burdens, and that we can find our rest in Him.
