The Aftermath | Julie

In Blog, Julie by Josh

In the past few years, we’ve had one unprecedented event after another, leaving us shocked, sad, disoriented, frustrated. You’re probably feeling one or more of those emotions in the aftermath of this weekend.

This can be a time of solemn reflection by each one of us, searching our hearts and going to God in prayer. Let’s pray for our leaders, past, present and future. Pray for our nation, for the families of those who were hurt or lost their lives. And pray for hearts to turn to God as our only hope. Let’s invite Him to examine our own hearts. To heal our land and to cleanse our hearts, allowing us to love others the way He generously and freely loves us.

And while we would never wish for a time such as this, this gives us, as believers, an opportunity to let the world know that we are Christians by our love. While emotions are a natural response, perhaps the best way to respond in these situations isn’t anger or fear or despair – but to take assertive steps of love. Unity is much more than dialing back rhetoric – it’s actively caring for one another.

We invite you to tangibly show Love this month with LifeSongs. We are collecting non-perishable food items to donate to Second Harvest Food Bank. This Thursday 7/18, we’ll be at Celebration Arabi’s church campus in St. Bernard Parish. And next Thursday 7/25, we’ll be at Celebration Church’s Metairie campus. Our friends at KONA Ice will set up their truck and hand out free snoballs to anyone who donates goods to Second Harvest. A kind act of love for people in need – a delicious treat to share on a hot Summer Day – that kind of Love is what creates Peace and Unity!

Thank you, LifeSongs family, for responding to these unprecedented events with Love. You set a standard for the whole country to look to.
