Finding Peace in a Chaotic World
Election Day is here, bringing with it all the tension and uncertainty that often surround these times. It’d be nice to think that after today things would calm down and be less chaotic, but each election seems to bring new challenges that leave many of us feeling anxious and worried about the future.
I know that feeling all too well! There was a time when politics consumed my every thought. I watched the news constantly, invested in every headline, debate, and poll. I let election results dictate my emotions, my outlook, and even my relationships. I can still remember the despair I felt when a presidential candidate I supported lost the election. I actually sent a text to all my friends calling it “the day America died.” I felt like everything I believed in had been shaken. But you know what? It wasn’t the end of America. Time went on, and all the doomsday scenarios I’d bought into turned out to be nothing but thieves, robbing me of my peace and joy.
It took a shift—a deliberate choice to turn my attention from what people can or can’t accomplish to the unchanging nature of God. When I put my hope in Jesus, I found peace. By anchoring my focus on Him, I could let go of the anxiety that had once completely consumed me.
Here’s the truth: human efforts will ALWAYS fall short, but God’s power is limitless. He’s in control, and His plan goes far beyond any election cycle. That doesn’t mean we stop caring about the world around us; but it does mean we engage from a place of hope, grounded in faith rather than fear.
So how can we find peace in a chaotic world? It begins with choosing to focus on Jesus.
Consider these words from Philippians:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7
Let these words sink in today. Imagine a life filled with the unshakable peace that only God can provide. Even when things around us feel chaotic, this peace stands as a testimony to God’s transformative power. Jesus says this in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Jesus makes two promises here. First, we will face trouble in this world—He never promised it would be easy. But He also gives us a second, more powerful promise: we can have peace, because He has already overcome the world.
So let’s take a moment today to step back, breathe deeply, and surrender our worries to Him. Trust that His plan is in motion, even when things feel uncertain. Allow yourself to embrace His peace and watch how it changes your perspective and restores your joy.
