As you and I gear up for Thanksgiving day, perhaps we should think about this quote!
My husband and I have a big family.
We have some that live near us, some still in Chalmette (where we’re from!), and some spaced out in other parts of Louisiana and the U.S.
Once upon a time (before Katrina), we all lived near each other.
I remember the days of riding my bike to my grandmother’s house down the street, walking to my uncle’s around the corner, and riding in the car no longer than 5 minutes to see my cousins, aunts, and uncles. Gone are those days.
Unfortunately, everyone is kind of everywhere now.
Family isn’t just a bike ride away anymore.
I wish my kids had that kind of experience with their cousins, but that’s just not reality.
So that makes time together with our family that much more special.
Carving out the time to see everyone individually can be a huge challenge, but that’s one reason why the holidays can be SUPER special. Usually everyone gathers in the same place at the same time! (Which also means it’s EXTRA loud and chaotic and everyone has a story they want to talk about!)
My daughter, who has been fixated on Christmas movies, has been watching the Christmas Chronicles 1 and 2 on repeat!
There’s a quote from the 2nd one that I’d love to share with you.
Kate stated, “Sometimes, we need to listen to the ones that we love the most. Because at the end of the day, your family are the only ones in the whole world who really understand you.
They’re the only ones that will always be there for you, no matter what. Christmas isn’t about where you are, but who you’re with.”
Don’t worry, I’m not skipping over Thanksgiving!!! On the contrary, I want to remind you how important it is
Perhaps you are spending Thanksgiving at home, with church friends, or at a campground like I am!
Who you’re sitting around the Thanksgiving table with is far more important than where you are while doing so.
Enjoy every moment of it. Soak it up, and really live in the moment.
Remember that what’s here today, may not be tomorrow.
There is but a small window we get to cherish these moments so make the most of them.
Thank you for being part of the LifeSongs family and for taking LifeSongs along for the ride with you regardless of where you eat your turkey w/gravy, mashed potatoes, and green bean casserole. To grandma’s house, we go!
