At LifeSongs, you often hear us say “God is good all the time.”
There was a time in my life when I had a difficult time saying that. There were several things happening that had me questioning God’s goodness. My husband’s, well my fiancé at the time, his father passed away unexpectedly. Then my husband had a health scare. And then Hurricane Katrina hit.
And maybe with all that is happening in our world right now, it’s hard for you to say and believe “God is good all the time.”
I came across this quote from Charles Spurgeon. He said:
“God oftentimes withholds riches and honors, and health of body from men, though they walk ever so uprightly; we may therefore know that honors and riches and bodily strength, are none of God’s good things… The good things of God are chiefly peace of conscience and the joy in the Holy Ghost in this life; fruition of God’s presence, and vision of his blessed face in the next, and these good things God never… withholds from the godly.”
I know I often view the good things of God as health & wealth & happiness. But God’s goodness is actually shown in His presence, and in His gifts of peace and joy, and in His promise of heaven.
And that’s why I am able to say with conviction, “God is good all the time.”
