Yall, Summer is here and if you are like me you may have some kids at home! HELP! In my house I have a 15-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son home all day.
My phone has never rang more, for the craziest of things like, “can I make some pizza”, or “can we get a sandwich”, or my favorite, “dad, can we eat? ” You guys have no idea how much I want to tell them in a sarcastic way “No, you can’t eat, just starve” but I can’t! Why, you might ask. It’s because I am a dad and good dad’s don’t starve their kids.
That would be wrong so I say with a smiling face “Yes, just don’t burn down the house”.
This makes me think about God, you know our Father! Each day these kids call with the same question and I give them the same answer each day. How much patience can I have with this? I mean it’s the same question and the same answer every day! Why do they keep asking me?
Then it hits me how many times we pray for forgiveness for the same things over and over, and each time God forgives us. He loves us so much that each time we make a mistake and fall, He is right there to pick us up, dust us off and encourage us to move forward in His light! No questions asked, no “I told you so”, no “let me think about it.” Nope He just forgives us and continues to be by our side knowing we are going to mess up again.
I love the word patience. Have you ever looked up the definition of that word? I did and here is the meaning: “the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset!”
I challenge each one of us to try and live the summer with patience. Patience to wait on God for whatever it is you are in need of from Him. No matter if it’s a family thing, a job thing, or just something you are really looking for in life. Just have patience with God just like He has for us and we have for our kids! Let God be God and know that His timing is better than ours because God is good all the time!
