“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” Psalm 55:22 (NIV)

I’ll admit it—I’m one of those people. I refuse to make two trips from the car to the kitchen with the groceries. Arms loaded with bags, keys dangling precariously from my pinky, and a loaf of bread balancing on the milk like a Jenga tower. Without fail, disaster strikes. The bread always slips, landing on the ground like a sad, squished pancake. I tell myself I’m being efficient, but really, I’m just creating more cleanup and ruining lunch.

You’d think I’d learn my lesson, but nope. And if I’m honest, I do the same thing with life’s burdens. I pile on the worries, the responsibilities, and the fears, determined to handle it all myself. But just like with the groceries, something always falls.

Psalm 55:22 reminds us that we don’t have to carry it all. God invites us to cast our cares on Him, to let go of the weight we’re carrying, and trust Him to sustain us. The word “cast” is powerful—it’s not about gently placing something down; it’s about throwing it off, releasing it fully. That’s not always easy, is it? Sometimes we cling to our burdens out of pride, fear, or habit. But when we do, we miss the peace and strength God offers.

God doesn’t just promise to lighten the load; He promises to sustain us. That means He’ll give us what we need to keep going, even when life feels overwhelming. And He’ll never let the righteous be shaken—not because we’re strong, but because He is.

Life is heavy, but you were never meant to carry it alone. The God who spoke the universe into existence is inviting you to let Him take the load. He doesn’t just want to help—He wants to carry it completely. So the next time life feels like too much, stop holding on so tightly. Let it fall into His hands, and watch how He carries you through.
