“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
It sounded like such a great idea at first. “We’ll take the metro from the airport into Paris,” I said. “It’s cost-effective, easy, and drops us off just a block from our Airbnb.” I was so confident in our plan. What could possibly go wrong? Famous last words.
Fast forward to me, hauling two 70-pound suitcases up an endless maze of stairs. Turns out, Paris metro stations don’t have escalators or elevators. Nope, just stairs. Lots and lots of stairs. And because I was the “strong young man” in our duo, I was officially nominated as the bag carrier. One suitcase at a time, I trudged up flight after flight while Madison stood guard against potential thieves, giving me her best “You’re doing great, sweetie!” vibes.
By the time we reached street level, my back had filed for worker’s comp, my patience was gone, and I was seriously questioning all my life choices. Never again—next time, it’s Uber or bust.
Looking back, it’s hilarious—but at the time, it felt overwhelming. And isn’t that how life is sometimes? We load ourselves up with worries, responsibilities, and the weight of the unknown. We convince ourselves we have to carry it all on our own. But 1 Peter 5:7 offers a different way: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
God isn’t asking us to haul life’s burdens up endless stairs by ourselves. He’s inviting us to hand them over to Him. He cares deeply about what’s weighing us down, and He’s strong enough to carry it all.
Casting your anxiety on God doesn’t mean your problems will disappear instantly. But it does mean you’re not carrying them alone. Just like I could’ve saved myself some misery by asking for help (or, you know, taking an Uber), we can find peace by trusting God to carry what we can’t.
So, what’s weighing you down today? Whatever it is, you don’t have to carry it alone. God is stronger than you think, and He’s ready to lift what you were never meant to bear—no stairs required.

Reflective Question:
What’s one burden you’ve been trying to carry on your own? How can you cast it onto God and trust Him to care for you?
