“Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.” Psalm 62:8 (NIV)
I don’t know about you, but I’ve always had this habit of holding things in. When life gets stressful, I tend to grit my teeth and try to push through, thinking, I’ll figure this out on my own. It’s like there’s this unspoken rule that says we have to keep it all together and only share the “highlight reel” of our lives.
But holding it all in gets heavy. I learned that the hard way. When I lost my mom to brain cancer, trusting God felt almost impossible. I was confused, scared, and angry—but I wouldn’t even admit to myself, much less to God, that I was angry at Him. I thought being upset with God wasn’t allowed, that it made me a “bad Christian.” So, I bottled it all up, and it just made the hurt worse.
It wasn’t until I finally let it out—acknowledging my anger to myself and to God—that healing began. I poured out my heart, and to my surprise, God didn’t turn away. Instead, He met me in my brokenness. He showed me that He could handle my pain, my doubts, and even my anger. That’s when I truly experienced God as my refuge.
That’s why Psalm 62:8 is so powerful to me. It’s a reminder that God doesn’t ask us to come to Him with polished words or perfect solutions. He says, “Pour out your hearts.” All of it—the good, the bad, the messy, and the honest. Pouring out your heart to God isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s an act of trust.
What I love about this verse is the simple reminder that we can trust God at all times. Not just when things are going well, but also in the moments when we’re struggling to hold it together. He’s not just there for the big storms or the major crises—He’s there for the everyday stuff, too.
So, if you’re feeling weighed down, take a moment today to pour out your heart to God. No filters. No holding back. He’s listening, and He’s ready to meet you where you are.

Reflective Question:
What’s one thing you’ve been holding in that you need to pour out to God today? How might your life feel lighter if you trusted Him as your refuge?
