Our family has had a really rough Spring and we decided to fast to get guidance and clarity over some major changes happening in our lives that we needed to make decisions about. From the start it was not easy. Everything that we were seeking clarity on, those decisions that were needing to be made, fell in someone else’s hands. It was a whirlwind of a time and our emotions were all over the place.
One day, in the midst of the storm, my husband said, “We have done all we can do. I’m tired of dealing with this. God you take care of this… we literally have to give it to God.”
It’s not that we were not trusting Jesus, but the daily roller coaster of ups and downs regarding our circumstances was stealing our peace. As we changed our mindset, we realized we were still in the midst of a storm, but Jesus was on the boat!
We realized, as we looked at our situation differently, instead of fast forwarding to what might happen (things we have no control over) we took things one day at a time. Slowing down like that encouraged us to be more present in the moment we were living. We also had opportunities to see how God set certain things up to give us opportunities to pray for others.
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart .” Jeremiah 29:13
This Bible verse came to life for us during this time! It’s amazing how when you really try to see things from God’s perspective, you see life, circumstances, situations and people so differently.
We found that as we were quieter, we could better listen. Our ears were more open so that we could hear what direction God might be leading us in. Also being quiet, we learned a lot about others and got to hear their “God Stories.”
We did get some clarity in some of those things we were seeking direction for. Looking back, the clarity did not come in the answer we originally thought it would. We got better.
“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3
