What’s your response when you face a setback in life? Building 429‘s Jason Roy says a friend of his helped change his perspective on them.
“I heard a buddy of mine say one time that God is a ‘set up’ master. That we should begin to look at the ‘setbacks’ in our lives as merely the ‘set up,’ the first or second chapter, not the final chapter of the book. No matter what you face, the loss of a loved one, sickness, loss of a job, a marriage or anything else, God will meet you right where you are. I’ve noticed that often times a setback brings incredible clarity to my thinking about what matters in this life. It’s not that God doesn’t constantly walk beside me every step of the way, it’s that I don’t normally look for him as diligently as when things go sideways.”
He wrote the band’s song Fear No More to speak to the reality that many times, the things we wouldn’t ever choose actually lead us directly into the most beautiful life altering moments where the reality of God’s presence is beyond a doubt.
So, whatever challenge you may be facing, let this song remind you that God is with you in the trial, that while every great book has moments of doubt, the hero is always with us, and the final chapter is yet to be written. While we’re waiting, we’re waiting in the arms of a living God who is working in and through all things. We can truly fear no more.
Deuteronomy 31:6. Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.
